They say that if you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. But… they also say that if your hobby becomes your job, you might stop enjoying it as a hobby.

So which one is true?

The truth is, both can be. Personally, I’ve always believed in doing what you love. Working just out of obligation isn’t fun—and trust me, it takes years off your life (speaking from experience).

When I started Unika Estudio four years ago, I was thrilled at the idea of spending my time on something I was passionate about. However, I soon realized there were aspects I hadn’t considered—though I don’t regret it for a second. 🖤

But as your business grows, you realize there’s so much more to do beyond shooting: promoting yourself on social media, replying to client emails, managing contracts and invoices, updating your website, and countless other tasks. Suddenly, you spend more time in front of a computer than behind your camera.

The key is to find balance—this might mean delegating certain administrative tasks, setting aside dedicated time for practicing your craft, or finding creative ways to combine both sides. In my case, I handle everything myself, but I organize my tasks and schedule carefully so nothing drains me or affects my creativity.

It’s essential to pay attention to details, and selecting the right typography for your site is just as important as choosing the images and text. The combination of all these elements is key to creating a flawless web design.

Keep in mind that your font choice can influence the message you convey to your visitors. The right font can make your website look professional, while a poor choice can have the opposite effect.

Step One: define the message you want to communicate

When designing a website, it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of what you want to communicate to visitors. An effective message can evoke emotions and sensations that connect with your audience and encourage them to explore your content further.

It’s essential to define your business identity and the values you want to highlight. A good way to start is by selecting three or four keywords that define your business and building a consistent, solid message around them. Ultimately, the goal is to create an engaging and memorable user experience that leaves a lasting, positive impression on your visitors.

There are many fonts available, which can be grouped into different families. Some of the main ones are:

Serif fonts

Serif fonts have small decorative strokes at the ends of their characters. Considered some of the earliest fonts used in design, they are highly readable and commonly used for corporate text and headlines. They’re also ideal for targeting an older audience because of their classic and elegant appearance.

Some of the most popular serif fonts include Times, Georgia, Garamond, and Courier.

Sans Serif fonts

It’s important to remember that less is more: I do not recommend using more than three different fonts in a single project. It’s better to keep it simple and carefully choose the fonts that best suit your design needs.

The 5 most common mistakes to avoid on your website

1. Forcing users to register:
This is one of the most annoying things you can do. Limiting access to your site’s content unless users register can completely ruin the experience, making your website feel like a tedious chore—even social login options can’t fully fix this. The best approach is to offer something in exchange for signing up, but never make it mandatory.

2. Displaying outdated content:
An outdated website gives a bad impression, as if it’s abandoned. No one wants to find broken links or ads that no longer work. Keep your information up to date to engage visitors and improve search engine visibility. Remember, Google favors websites that are updated regularly.

3. Too much information:
It’s natural to want to share everything, but sometimes it’s impossible to include it all on your site. Excess information makes the user experience difficult and is also penalized by Google.

If you have a lot of text, organize it well: use tabs or accordions so visitors can choose what to read without having to hunt through the entire website. Only include what your audience truly needs and organize it coherently. Remember: less is more.
